Disappointed But At The Same Time Proud
August 31, 2009

On the surface of saturday’s result, you could be forgiven for thinking the same old Arsenal yet again, taking the lead then surrendering it, making costly mistakes, not finishing chances etc. To a certain degree i agree that it was the same old Arsenal in that luck was not on our side, for the last three years or so we have seemed to lack the luck that other teams such as Chelsea and Man united have, great examples would be the penalty decision and the chance Van persie had at the start of the 2nd Half.
Whilst it cannot be argued Almunia stupidly made contact with Rooney, after repeatedly watching the incident it did strike me that Wayne Rooney deceived the referee in a sense. When the ball made its way near Rooney, you can clearly see he kicks ball perfectly at the corner flag, then promptly falls over Almunia’s outstretched arms. My argument for that decision is that Rooney was never going to have the ball under control, he was not denied a goal scoring opportunity and simply played for the penalty, it was deliberate and clever. In regards to Van Persie’s miss 2nd half i am still beating myself up over it, i keep wondering if only it was a inch more to the right or even a couple inches to the left as then it would of gone through Foster’s Legs.
It took me till this morning to actually slump out my depression that was not due to Arsenal’s performance or players but the way we just did not deserve that. I felt terribly sorry for Arsene Wenger and the way they treated him at the end made me sick, making him climb to where the fans where was disgusting and disgraceful and a apology does not seem enough.
Cause For Optimism
It was not to be though, Whilst the result was a devastating kick in the teeth i still am quitely optimistic about this team, i think Arsene has worked wonders this season, he has created a team on the verge of being absolute animals, a team that will fight for each other, a Defence that will be hard to breach. Vermaleen is an absolute beast, dealt with Rooney with ease, him and Gallas have formed a good quick understanding at the back. The full backs look more determined this season, i am a great admirer of Clichy he plays with so much heart, even if he does make the odd mistake a season, if we are in need you will no doubt see him racing down the left running back and forth fighting for the team like Saturday.
Midfield and Diaby
Another Strength is our midfield you would not of believed last season if i told you we would go to Old Trafford wiv Diaby, Song and Denilson and outplay and outpass the champions. The transformation of Song is unbelievable, he was immense. As usual Denilson was everywhere but i would like to reserve praise for Diaby, for the simple fan who will say Diaby is terrible simply cause he scored an own goal i would have to disagree, if he can stay fit and consistent this boy will be an world beater. Like Andy Gray said the things he can do with the ball are amazing, the amount of times he went past Man utd players like they were not was ridiculous, he has tremendous ability, a great player in the making. His biggest weakness is his injuries, if he can put a stop to that then he will be tremendous for Arsenal.
Strikers
With Players such as Arshavin and Van Persie leading the line we have got players, who with the swing of their boot can change the game in a second. Everytime i think of that Arshavin goal, i smile as i think of the happyness i had for that half hour or so. We have got players in our team who can change games now whether it be a fabregas pass, Arshavin strike, Van persie set piece or a Diaby dribble.
Response
The next game against those moneygrabbers manc city, will tell us alot. I hope we respond like the wounded animal we can be, i really hope are confidence is not affected as accept for the those two mistakes we played brilliantly and i cant help but think what the headlines and morale would be like had we scored that 2nd goal.
Let me know your opinions on my first blog, and your views on our teams chances for silverware this season.
Thank you
In Arsene We Trust
